Farewell to loyal Bologna servant Cesarino Cervellati

The great servant of the club Cesarino Cervellati has passed away at the age of 88. A Rossoblu icon, he made 320 appearances overall and stands 15th in the all-time appearance charts. He also served the club repeatedly as a coach.

From Baricella, he was signed by Dall’Ara at the age of 16 and he made his debut as an 18-year-old against Lazio. He had the touch of a true artist as he could read the play and finish. He had a massive impact on the right wing in a position that had previously been held by greats such as Biavati and Perani but Cesarino was a real delight for the fans. He scored 88 goals in 14 seasons at Bologna, also earning six well-deserved Italy caps between 1951 and 1956. He ended his playing career at 31 and the Chairman begged Bernardini to take him on as an assistant. In the 1970s, he showed his dedication to return as caretaker in times of real difficulty and he was always ready to work with the youth teams. In the 1976/77 season, he miraculously kept the team up. In 1983, he returned for the final time with the situation out of his control when the club was relegated to Serie C1 for the first time and that was enough for his managerial career.

All of Bologna Fc 1909 is close to his family at this sad time as we fondly remember the great small man who could hide the ball from the greats who was truly in love with the Rossoblu colours and always ready to step up in times of difficulty.
