Primavera set to compete at Viareggio Cup: The history

The latest edition of the Viareggio Cup is set to begin. The youth tournament was founded in 1949 under its official name of the Coppa Carnevale and it has had an international flavour since the start with teams from all over the world taking part. Bologna will be represented by Emanuele Troise’s Primavera side.

Bfc won the competition in 1967 by beating Vojvodina following a replay. in the round of 16. The decisive match finished 1-0 thanks a Paganini goal after the first leg was goalless thanks to the marvellous saves of Oriano Testa who also kept out a penalty. In the quarter-finals, the Rossoblu beat the favoured Soviet outfit Burevestnik 1-0 thanks to an own goal.

In the semi-finals, they beat Roma 2-0 with goals from Micheli and a Russo own goal.

The final on 6th February 1967 saw Samson’s Bologna beat Fiorentina 3-2 at the Stadio dei Pini after extra time. The starting XI: Roversi, Galli, Prini, Battisodo, Cioncolini, Micheli, Luchitta, Paganini, Minigutti, Aristei. Goalscorers: 32′ OG Bussolaria , 48′ Brugnera, 81′ Peronace, 88′ Paganini, 1118′ Luchitta. Migliorini missed a penalty on 73 minutes. The complete Bologna squad was: Testa, Orlandini, Battisodo, Prini, Galli, Cioncolini, Scala, Luchitta, Aristei, Paganini, Pasqualini, Roversi, Minigutti, Micheli, Barbana, Manetti, Ferrari. The most recent participation from the Rossoblu was last year when Magnani’s side got through the group stage before going out to Napoli in the Round of 16.
