Rossoblu around the world: Bologna Club USA
The club was born following a meeting between Michele Leonardi and Giuseppe Capuano back in 2013/14, after the pair had got together to watch a domestic league fixture between Bologna and Roma.
In September 2014, during Bologna’s takeover negotiations, Michele had then met up with Fabio Trebbi and Matteo Fiorentini during a Ligabue concert in Manhattan, who were also both New York residents and supported BFC. A dinner soon followed in a Bolognese restaurant, where each of the group followed tradition and sampled the lasagna, before they then all decided to create the first Bologna supporters club in the United States, in which they would all aim to get together and watch the team’s matches. Thanks to promoting themselves on social networks, they immediately met an additional two Bologna fans in New York, as Enrico Scalvini and Paolo Merisi also joined the club.
Thanks to the Rossoblu Forum, Giuseppe Capuano is in constant contact with other Bologna fans across the United States. At this present moment in time; there are four in Florida, one in Rhode Island, four in California, three in Illinois, one in Minnesota, one in New Mexico, as well as the 12 who are active in the New York area. There are also another 10 Bologna fans who live in the Tri-State area who follow the team in a less active capacity, although they all still share the same passion for the team’s colours.
As for their meeting place when watching matches, the club gather in the Legends Bar, which is often seen as a shrine for football in New York City. Here you can also find fans who support the likes of PSG, Manchester United, Liverpool and also plenty of other teams from across the world.
During the club’s first year of activity, they made and sold scarves, along with other merchandise, with the proceeds all going to charity. The Bologna club USA has also participated in fundraising for Bologna fans who are not residents in Europe, as they provide 10 Kid’s Stand season tickets, in association with Bimbo Tu Association and Bologna.
Last December, the lads from the club also took part in a five-a-side tournament organised by the Giuseppe Rossi foundation, ultimately finishing in third place thanks to a great victory in the ‘finalina’ against Napoli supporters.
Here is the official Facebook page for the Bologna Club USA, whilst they also have an official Youtube channel.
