Tuesday’s opponents: Inter
With 19 points from eight matches under Stefano Pioli and Mauro Icardi chasing records, this Inter team can realistically hope to finish third and return to the Champions League. They look nothing like the side which started the season and the change of coaches has been followed by five consecutive wins with the side showing more belief in itself. Our first away trip in the Tim Cup sees us face one of the most in-form teams in the league as they look to have come together as a cohesive whole. Two wingers in Antonio Candreva and Ivan Perisic guarantee chance creation and in their win over Chievo there were 58 crosses in 90 minutes. Up front is a real threat in Mauro Icardi who has 62 goals from 111 Inter appearances. He’s not the only option though, Perisic specialises in late goals with five in the last 15 minutes of matches, Eder can open a game up while Roberto Gagliardini presses high while Geoffrey Kondogbia has been reinvented.
They have five quality central midfielders with names such as Ever Banega and Marcelo Brozovic also who can’t be allowed to shoot from distance.
On the other hand, defensive frailties haven’t been entirely sorted. They’ve gone behind early too often with five goals conceded in the first 15 minutes of matches as Pioli keeps switching between Jeison Murillo and Danilo D’Ambrosio. Cristian Ansaldi looks good on the ball but has also made some mistakes. Miranda plays a vital role and is the player with who has made the eighth most fouls in the league but he’s one of the best in winning the ball back.
