Verdi: “Bologna are the present and future for me”

Bfc TV were at Coverciano for the press conference where Simone Verdi spoke upon his first senior Italy call-up. “I didn’t expect to be called up because I saw the squad was announced and Bernardeschi was in so I didn’t think I was in and I didn’t hear until Saturday evening. I hadn’t been at my for Bologna but then the call came in from Di Vaio after Federico’s injury and I wasn’t sure if it was a joke but I then saw that it was all real and it was a great feeling. I used to only see some of these great players who are here on TV. I was having breakfast with Spinazzola when Buffon came over to say hello and I had goosebumps at being in front of him. I have to thank Donadoni who has taught me a lot and I have to thank all of my past coaches who have given me something. I was struck by how humble these great players are and I think that’s  what makes them great. At Bologna, we have the aim of finishing as high as we can, nobody thinks that we’re safe and we have to keep going to do as well as possible. I signed a four-year contract with Bologna in July. Bologna are my present, I can only see Bologna as my future because of the contract and if the club want I’d like to honour my contract.”
